Names you may see for this category or its subtypes. Some describe a technique or a marketing concept rather than the same treatment.
- RF tightening
- Radiofrequency-based treatment. Surface RF and RF microneedling use different approaches.
- HIFU / microfocused ultrasound
- HIFU means high-intensity focused ultrasound; microfocused ultrasound is another focused-ultrasound approach. Devices and depths differ, so the treatments are not interchangeable.
- Non-surgical facelift
- A broad marketing phrase that may describe different procedures. It does not mean the result of a surgical facelift.
Set a realistic goal
Ask what degree of change is supported for your situation and how it compares with surgical options.
RF microneedling deserves a separate discussion
The U.S. FDA has reported serious complications with certain uses, including burns, scarring, fat loss and nerve injury. This is a U.S. safety alert, not a statement of European authorization. RF microneedling combines needles with heat; it is not the same as standard microneedling.
What to check
Ask for the exact device, intended treatment area, practitioner’s experience and plan to manage complications.
“What improvement is realistic and how do you protect the tissues that should not be treated?”
