Lip augmentation with fillers
Lip augmentation uses an appropriate injectable dermal filler to alter fullness, shape or definition. It differs from lip revitalization with topical boosters and cosmetic microneedling, which has surface hydration or texture goals. Ask which aim and exact route your proposed treatment involves.
What the label does not tell you
Not every HA formulation is intended for lips and not every filler material has the same uses. Ask about the exact product and the proposed change. Early swelling can make the initial appearance different from the settled result, so agree on review timing. Bruising, swelling and lumps can occur; accidental injection into a blood vessel can cause serious injury. Any proposed reduction or removal also has limits and risks.
Questions to bring
Are we aiming for volume, shape, definition or another change? Is this exact filler authorised locally for the proposed lip use? How do previous filler, cold sores or allergies affect the plan? When will we judge the settled result and what would prompt an earlier review? What is your emergency plan for unusual pain, skin colour changes or visual symptoms?
Evidence and scope
Lip hydration and lip volume are different goals. Discuss the parent dermal-filler risks and the exact HA formulation before choosing a treatment. Product authorisation varies by country and intended use.
